I don't really understand the co-location services
I always got the impression that this was something that was driven by the service providers rather than the customers. Compared to even the cheapest 1U and blade rackmounts, the Mac mini works out better on the triplet ratio of CPUs, cost and cubic feet.

The decimal numbering system is the base 10 numbering system. In a decimal number, the rightmost place value is 1. Ten will be the place-value of the next place to the left. Yep and they'll have to right off that stock and/or get intel to cover the cost. The point is that this affects every computer maker. I'd not really single out one or two makers. What about Lenovo, they have sandy bridge computers, or Acer, Asus, or Gateway?

Might be there for 5 or 6 AM. Have a full day of work that starts at 9 AM and includes going out of town in the afternoon. Can't be sure I'll be up and alert enough to go later in the evening to pick-up. Plus it looks like fun
Same here, leaving on a flight at 2:30, but I don't have to work (I'm a grad student). I was hoping I could show up at 7 am and wait however long it takes and get the phone and still make my flight. I am guessing I don't have to stay up overnight to do that, and hopefully I can still meet cool Mac people.

yes, that's exactly what I did. I took an external 1TB WD small form factor drive (it houses a 2.5" HDD), created 200GB and 800GB partitions, then installed Lion on the smaller one. I still haven't begun to use the larger partition, however :D
BTW, has anyone gotten iStat Menus 2.0 running on Lion? I can't seem to get it working correctly. It downloads the sensors, but when I click on any of them in the preference pane, I'm told that they can't be loaded.

I generally advise people to avoid having their camera gear on a homeowner's rider anyway- the last thing you want is the HO insurance canceled because of a claim. Talk to any licensed insurance agent- Traveller's has a nice "personal professional property" policy, or just ask about an "inland marine" policy for your gear.

I have an original Mac mini running Leopard. I sleep it every night and wake it up every weekday. It randomly wakes with this Bonjour problem (I've never seen it happen while the machine is awake).
I haven't yet determined a pattern. Note that it's not an IP address problem � this is a Bonjour (or mDNS) naming error. The machine has a fixed IP address acquired via DHCP. I also have an Airport Extreme which can proxy Bonjour.
On the other hand, I have a Macbook running Snow Leopard that is slept/started much more often but has never experienced this problem. I wonder if it is an old Leopard problem which has since been solved.

Not sure how you saw a 12" Powerbook over a decade ago since they didn't come out until 2003 ;)
But seriously, they will hold 1.12GB of RAM in the original 867MHz models, and all the ones after than will do 1.25GB of RAM. For a short time you actually could get CPU upgrades through a company that you would mail the PowerBook to and they would upgrade it to 1.67GHz or something like that. I've owned both a 867MHz model and currently a 1.5GHz one. Go for no less than a 1.33. They have faster RAM, much better graphics chips, and more HD space by default. My 1.5GHz is wonderful in Leopard with the maximum RAM installed and its 64MB GeForce Go5200 graphics card. Probably wouldn't hurt to find a newer & faster HD, but for a secondary computer, 60GB is plenty for me.

The answer BEFORE Thunderbolt would have been more difficult. Assuming TB external drives, I'd say iMac.

mostly for single player, expect for the "party" type games (mario party, ssb), where i may put mutli player as more of a priority.
