Did you get a job in US before you came to US. Most probably not.
There are a lot of people who come to US blindly like students or consultants. They also landed up jobs (doing what they were meant for and not as cabbies or as janitors) and built careers.
There are no or few body shoppers in canada because there are only a few shops :-D
For the majority this is true in US. This is what land of opportunity means.
It might be true for a few cases in Canada but for the majority it is false advertisement. Canada is not a land of opportunity. This is not a few of those who have been burnt talking. Try getting a job in Canada. Look at the salaries for yourselves.
Folks am again telling this for your own benefit only. I have nothing to gain. I was not wise to do that. So thought I would guide the poor wandering souls here. Dont waste your dollars in Canada PR when you have US GC pending. It will do you no good.

I disagree, I have friends who are DBA's ( oracle and DB2 ) , I know he has been working for $85/hr in canada from the past five years, there are lots of insurance , financial bank in canada, and also for SAP consultants there are excellent oppurtunities in alberta ( HUB OF OIL COMPANIES ) , I know lots of people are driveing TAXI but some body with experience should not find it immposible. Another friend of mine from INDIA landed directly in toronto, with only 2 years experience in .NET , with in four months he got a job.
So again if you do ur homework, you can settle down with ease in canada.

It is not about being treated special. First thing - if you do not go through unnecessary inspection "Does not mean it is special treatment" Lets get the slavery mentality out of us.

Scenario:
If one is working with company A on H1 and Company B applies a future employment GC for the person. The Person received EAD/AP for the 485 which is pending from 1 year through company B. Also have a valid and stamped H1 for 3 years from company A.
Now in this case:
1) Is there a Law or Need to Join company B since EAD has been issued?
2) Can one stick with company A even after getting EAD till he gets GC? In that case is AC21 required to remain with Company A?
3) Can one Join new Company X and use AC21?

Canada immigration is simple & straight forward.
No expensive lawyers are required or any lengthy procedures. Just self do. Also look at the currency rate of US and Canada almost same... Tax is a little high but medical is fully covered.
You need to fill forms,send all your education, papers etc and LO ! you are done and get PR Card. Some of my friends got it in less than 2 yrs.
go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp and you can apply on your own.
P.S: I am not an lawyer. Just another frusted GC wait, wait no reply candidate.
Canadian Immigration is simple.. But then what? Are you ready to live your life in socialist welfare state? Buying a home in CAN $ 200000 in year 2007 will give you $ 5000 top in Year 2030.. Are you ready for that? Do not choose Good apples from the basket. This guy got a job from Microsoft does not mean that easily you would get settled...One thing I do not understand is why so much zeal about Canadian immigration on American immigration forums.. Is it some mental syndrome to make people part of your own guilt?
By the way my very nearest relatives and friends have choosen (Many are in IT as well..) Canada to get settled... Some live there since last 20 years... I know how Canada works... And believe me if you get USA GC done.. Canada is not worth considering....More or less Canada is not that a dynamic society... It is still 16th Century European mind set... I can understand someone may get it done as backup but here it seems that some of the people are out to the mission .. And I have a problem there. If somebody is in really a bad shape of US Green card and all doors are going to be closed soon and considering Canada.. That is understandable... Other thing, with decision of corporates you can not take decisiion to unsettle your life.. Argument: Microsoft decides to go to Canada and is hirring you .. What can go wrong...many things can go wrong.. you do not know and many things cannot be proved.. With myself it already happened.. In year 2001 Bubble burst my then employer gave me a choice to move to Canada ( Exactly Microsoft kind of public declaration.. Company is also very prestigious and more or less you can consider it of the size of Microsoft).... I took decision not to go and so I was out of the company.. Some friends went there.. after 2 years laid off.. Those 2 years they got American salary on Canadian land (Dream, huh !!!!!!!!) ,, But then what after lay off.. One of them had to sit 6 months to get proper job.. Way less salary... Can this happen to everybody? May not be..But the bottom line is you will have to fiight out the hurdles.. Here you have GC Process hurdle.. In canada you may not have that but you may be having other 100 hurdles... What will you do then? WIll you go to Australia? ...There are 600 countries so at the most you can do 600 migrations :-) By the way both of my friends now want to come back to USA after getting citizenship and their families do not want to move as they have mentally fed up with this move from country to country.. What are the hopes for individuals who missed Jul 07. In my case my labor got approved in Oct 07 and we are still waiting for the date to be current to be able to file for EAD / AP. Based on the figures that you show, I believe that all 2006 people should get cleared in the coming year and the traffic for 2007 & 2008 is quite less. What are the predictions for the PD movement till year end?
Your PD will be current by Sep 2010. Or if you are lucky you may get GC by that time.

It looks like my post which was meant to bring some awareness to the innocent civilians being killed in SL has lost its purpose. Here are some clarification which will respond to atleast some posts:
1) There is no support for LTTE, not by Indian govt, not by USA, UN or any other country and neither by me
2) Post is not to gather support for LTTE, post is to gather support for INNOCENT CIVILIANS being killed. Now both sides killed civilians, recent report by UN (third party which is neutral - if neutral or UN still carries any value) shows SL army bombing the civilian safe-zone which is an outrage.
3) SL tamils are not Indian citizens. If we get US citizenship do you think anyone in USA will treat you as american, you are Indian American. My reference to Indians in SL is the same, thought you guys are smart enough to understand that.
4) Our Indian government with all its might..should not keep quiet and let the ethnic cleansing happen..kill all the LTTE no one cares..but killing all tamilians or most of them to keep others quiet is outageous. Bringing out this atrocity is the point of my post.
And guys..I am not a tamilian..I am an Indian..if this happens to any other group in India I will stand up and shout with the same ferocity with which I posted this. Standing up for good cause and protecting human values anywhere in the world need not require us belonging to a particular community. Being human is enough!

While Pre-approved labor is ok, the priority date of the original applicant should NOT transfer over to the beneficiary of the substituted labor. The injustice is there.

First: several members (incl self) have checked with their own lawyers and these lawyers tend to agree with the common interpretation of validity for entire month. And at least some of these are lawyers with many years of practice.
Second: Fragomen, the largest immigration law firm, on its website mentions the mid-month possibility; so while there is no government source, the whole topic cannot be dismissed as an unfounded rumor.
Third: Macaca keeps cutting and pasting from the ombudsman's report in many different colors.
My interpretation:
The mid-month concept seems to be a matter of opinion. Multicolor posts notwithstanding, there's nothing official on this matter so far. (I emailed the state department seeking an answer; not surprisingly, I haven't heard back. If anyone else can get something from the horse's mouth, then post it here. If you can get stuff only from the other end of the horse, then maybe there's isn't much pointing in driving a general panic.)

Any ways, it is not going to stop me from having fun here. Any body with more interested stories to keep people informed and entertained till they get gc. Too much predicting would kill the mood. To be motivated u need some fun too.
so i got tricked this time, in checkout lane met some guy with his kid, started chatting casual nuthing on those bombay guy or other stuff which amway uses, finally he stated that he knows of some folks that have their business here in fremont,ca he is planning to see how they operate, i assumed business means some store related or so, since he didnt seem like an IT guy .
next day get a call, i ask him if its quickster, n he says u heard of it...why wife started laughing @ me, saying u got tricked this time, normally i wud recognise these guys in 1look

Those of you who have homes and think this is unfair to you, I can understand your vantage point of being excluded. But there is a clear indirect consequence of such a legislation. I would say, Who ever bought the home bought the home with an intention of making US their permanent home. Some one else would say, I know guys who bought 2 homes. Its all greed and nothing else. So lets not go there.
None of them knew that FNM & FRE will be gobbled up by Fed, Lehman will go under after 158 years, AIG will be owned 80% by the gov and ML would be sucked up for peanuts. If they had a slightest inkling they would not have bought a home.
The problem is we have a glut of homes on the market. There are a bunch of people who can invest but do not want to because of the uncertainty they are facing. No doubt every one has uncertainty. Imagine a law maker's perspective (not mine or IV's) on exempting some one from the numerical limits, if he/she does not help reduce the number of houses by 1. All that matters at the negotiating table is whether this helps the housing markets or not.
As some one said, this is not the senate/house floor. If such legislation were to be enacted congress will design a lot of preconditions to be met. (legal and financial) We cannot dilute the message to start with. There was a good amount of discussion about this "already own a home" issue before the whole thing appeared on the website. Its in our best interest we start from here.
Its easy to sit down here and write what is fair and what is unfair. What really matters in the end is whether we can sell our pitch and make it palatable to lawmakers. Please stop enumerating all the unfair events in the EB immigration process. It just does not get any where.

For my spouse, I've to take care of all the fees for I-485 / I-765 / I-131 / Biometric ( $325 + $180 + $170 + $ 70). For me, I've to take care only I-131 Fees ( $170). The Company Pays the fees only for my I-485 and I-765 and also take care of the Attorney Fees for both of us. They also reimburse the Medical Expenses, if the insurance does not cover the charges, only for Employee/ Primary applicant. For all dependents it is my responsibility.
You are right i did not mention EAD & AP, My Lawyer did not file for it.. so i don't have numbers for these.. sorry .. so Per Person it will be like Avg. > $3000.00 or more..
